Software updates
ShowTrak Server can update the ShowTrak Client software on your machines for you, over the network, from one place. You don't need to visit each computer.
The Server works as a download hub: it fetches a client release once, stores it locally, and then deploys that same release to the machines you choose.
Good to know: Remote updates are supported on ShowTrak Client v3.4.0 and newer. Older clients are flagged as needing a manual update and can't be updated this way.
Opening the Update Manager
- Click the Settings (gear) menu in the bottom‑right.
- Choose Update Manager.
The window shows which release (if any) is currently downloaded to the Server, a list of available releases, and all of your clients with their current versions.
Step 1 — Download a release
- Click Refresh to fetch the latest list of available releases.
- Pick a release from the dropdown. A badge tells you whether it's already Downloaded or Not downloaded.
- If it isn't downloaded yet, click Download Selected Release.
- A progress bar shows the download. When it finishes, the badge changes to Downloaded.
Step 2 — Deploy to your clients
- Make sure a downloaded release is selected.
- In the client list, tick the boxes for the machines you want to update. A client can only be ticked if it is online, running v3.4.0 or newer, and not already on the selected version.
- Click Deploy Release To Selected Clients.
- Each client shows its own progress and status as it updates — for example Pending, Updating…, then Updated. Any failures are listed with a reason.
Clients install the update themselves once they receive it, then come back online on the new version.
Reading the status messages
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Ready to update | Eligible and waiting for you to deploy |
| Updating… | The update is downloading and installing on the client |
| Updated | Finished successfully |
| Already on selected version | Nothing to do — it's already up to date |
| Offline | Can't be updated right now because it isn't connected |
| Manual update required (< 3.4.0) | Too old for remote updates; update this machine by hand |
Clients that need a manual update
If any machines are running a version older than v3.4.0, the Update Manager lists them under a Manual Update Required notice. Update those machines directly on the device using the latest Client installer from the Downloads page.
Updating the Server app itself
The Update Manager handles your clients. The Server application keeps itself current separately — you can trigger a check from the Settings menu (Check for Updates), and the app applies updates as part of its normal startup. See the Preferences guide for related options.
