LAN Discovery Wizard
The LAN Discovery Wizard scans your local network to find devices you might want to keep an eye on, then lets you add them as monitoring targets in a couple of clicks. It's the quickest way to build a dashboard without typing in addresses by hand.
It finds devices two ways at once:
- mDNS / Bonjour — listens for devices that advertise themselves on the network
- Network scan — actively probes common ports across your subnet to find anything that responds
Opening the wizard
- Click the Settings (gear) menu in the bottom‑right.
- Choose LAN Discovery Wizard.
Running a scan
- Click Start Scan.
- A progress indicator shows how far along the scan is, and results appear in the table as they're found. A scan takes a few seconds.
- To stop early, click Cancel Scan.
Each result row shows:
- Name — the device name or its IP address
- Address — the device's IP address
- Source — whether it was found by mDNS or by the network scan
- Details — extra information such as hostname, detected services, and open ports
Adding a discovered device
- Find the device you want in the results.
- Click Add next to it.
- The monitoring target editor opens with the address already filled in. Choose a monitoring method, set the check interval, and adjust anything else you like.
- Click Save. The device now appears on your dashboard and the Server starts checking it.
See Clients & monitoring targets for a full description of the monitoring methods and options.
Tips
- Run the wizard from a machine on the same network and subnet as the devices you want to find.
- Some networks block the broadcast traffic used for discovery. If a device you expect doesn't show up, you can always add it by hand with Create Monitoring Target and its known IP address.
- Discovery finds general network devices. ShowTrak Clients are added differently — they appear automatically in the DISCOVER area for adoption (see Clients & monitoring targets).
